SCA Barista Intermediate 2 Day Course

This workshop is designed for anyone already working with coffee – whether as a Head Barista, coffee shop owner, or simply someone eager to dive deeper into the world of coffee. The focus is on understanding extraction, developing sensory awareness, and learning how to describe flavors with precision – all to improve coffee quality, work more intentionally, and offer better service.

Participants will cup a variety of coffees to refine their sensory skills. They’ll analyze espresso extraction using a refractometer and learn how to interpret the brew chart as a tool for quality control. Hands-on practice is a key part of the course, including workflow management, machine cleaning, and latte art – all aimed at building practical coffee knowledge for day-to-day application.

Additional topics include:
– Coffee processing methods and their impact on flavor
– Fundamentals of espresso sensory analysis and brew phase perception
– Using a refractometer and interpreting the brew chart
– Workspace management and practical workflow techniques
– Three latte art patterns (e.g. heart, tulip, rosetta)
– Machine cleaning and its influence on quality and consistency
